Today, I felt it was time to get my own motorbike and start being more self - sufficient. The xe oms (motorbike taxis) are cheap but do start to add up after awhile. I contacted a company who happened to be run by an American. He took me to an underground parking garage where some bikes were parked. After showing me the bells and whistles, he set me off to drive up the ramp and meet him in the open area at the top. Easy enough right? Well, I managed to get almost to the top but let off the throttle, losing all my momentum. So, I throttled again and the bike took off. I panicked, throttled more and swerved into a waist high retaining wall. I flew off the bike and slid on to the grass and the bike crashed to the ground. Luckily, the bike and I only had a few scrapes. He let me try driving it around the open parking area for awhile but I still wasn't comfortable so I hung it up for the day.
My pride and hope we're badly bruised. I am so disappointed I wasn't able to catch on right away. I mean, I am a long way from any comfort level on a motorbike. Plus, there are no good places to practice so it's going to be awhile before I try again. It may seem like a small set back but it feels like a huge one to me. Hopefully, I will see it more realistically after a good night sleep.
