Szia (Hello) from Budapest!

Yes, I know - its been awhile again.  Time seems to be just flying by and free internet access and free time have been pretty limited lately.

Let me start with a general update.  I am still having a wonderful time but have had a few grumpy days.  Just not wanting to get up and do the bus thing AGAIN.  But luckily I would power through and ended cheering up.  I think there is a little homesickness mixed in but that will be cleared up soon enough due to a recent development.  My sister is joining me in Greece for the cruise!!! I can't tell you how excited I am that she is coming!  It will be so exciting to share part of this trip with her.  Plus, its her first European trip!  Also, I am feeling great - no more bronchitis.

On this trip, we started back in Berlin so I took the train from Frankfurt.  It was a lovely ride - I wish we had such a wonderful train system in the US.  Berlin is a really wonderful city and I really enjoyed it yet again.

We then spent nearly 12 hours the next day on the road to Warsaw.  It was a grueling bus ride but I am grateful to have a lovely seat mate named Brenda.  She is really sweet and talks just enough! =)  Warsaw was beautiful and really interesting.  85% of the city was destroyed in WWII and they actually reconstructed the city just as it was before the destruction.  Even though most of the city is only 60 or so years old - it looks like hundreds of years old.  The Polish people are very impressive!

After 2 days in Warsaw, we went to Krakow.  Krakow was fantastic and is apparently a hidden gem of Europe.  It was yet another beautiful old city but more lively than Warsaw.  After a city tour, I had lunch with some fellow tour goers - David and his mother Kaye.  Lovely and fun people!  I had probably one of the best meals I have ever had at small cafe in the Old Town Square.  Our hotel was less than 2 blocks from the square which was fantastic.  We ended up going to a dinner and polka party which was super fun.  The authentic Polish dishes like pierogies and kilbasi were fantastic!  Plus, the entertainment was really nice and we got to do a little dancing too!  After the polka party, I ventured out to find some nightlife and found an Irish pub - go figure!  I ended up playing pool with some really nice people and found my Polish boyfriend.  Check out the next post for his picture and info.

Then on to Budapest for 2 more days.  After dinner last night, David, Kaye and I ventured out to Cafe Gerbeaud for a lovely dessert and a glass of wine (for me.)  Then we walked around the pedestrian mall for awhile before coming back to the hotel.  Today, I slept in and then explored the city of my own.  Its a beautiful city but I am still a fan of Krakow.  Tonight we have a Hungarian dinner and gypsy show which should be interesting!

Overall, I really liked Poland - the people are friendly once you get them talking and everything is very inexpensive.  Hungary has been nice too but expensive.  I don't have much time here so don't expect a Hungarian boyfriend post unless something exciting happens tonight!  =)
